The year was 1892 while busy inventing the telephone, Alexander Graham Bell began experimenting with kites formed from tetrahedral structures. Bell knew that a single triangle, on its own is just a triangle. But many triangles pieced together created a tetrahedral structure that could enable human flight. Inside what was to be known as the kite house, Bell and his team sat building large kites and sowing piles of red silk around these large yet light structures. At the time everyone thought him insane and hopelessly impractical. But Bell endured. His kites would eventually create the foundation for human flight and change the course of history.
