Urban Agriculture on Japanese Rooftops

January 18, 2017

The innovation of the Japanese train users have sparked a green thumb revolution.

This is a 'Soradofarm', one of many community rooftop garden projects which sees local train users tending to urban pastures as an in-between activity along their train ride home.

Soradofarm accepts anyone and you can apply to tend to a garden on their website on a first come first serve basis. Support staff are around to advise and help with garden maintenance, so beginner gardeners are also welcome. This simple yet effective concept is revolutionary because it solves two problems at once. Not only are the rooftop farms in close proximity to city dwellers but also cut out the need to commute.

This represents an innovative solution to urban agriculture and food resilience which is simple and very effective as it is located in between train stops.
